Site specific public sculpture in Qiandaohu, Hangzhou, China
Qiandaohu public installation
Lake tides are imperceptible except for the changes they create over time to the shoreline, through erosion and sedimentation. Similarly, our everyday actions – fueled by capitalism and commercialism – accumulate over time to leave lasting, irreversible effects on the environment. This piece uses the language of commerce (custom made led signs), a “nature” area developed for tourism, and reclaimed plastic to open dialogue about desire, colonial attitudes towards the environment (the addition of the Xin’anjiang Dam flooded the mountainous region – making a large lake), and electronic and plastic pollution.
