The privileged life of traditional Chinese scholarly civil servants, or Literati, depended on unpaid labor. Using the motif of rice as a signifier for the peasant class (who grew but could not afford to eat white rice),  the character for rice 米 was written 10,000 times in a 12 day performance. (installation: ink on paper on wood support 100x100x40cm)
